Wear Multiple Layers To Keep Warm During Winter Running Sessions

It is generally recommended to get some exercise everyday in order to stay fit and healthy, and many people like to go jogging three or four times a week to help keep their weight down. The key thing to remember is to wear lots of light layers. It is a bad idea to select a big heavy coat because you will get too warm and then want to take it off in the middle of your workout. Instead, opt for three light layers for your torso, including a base layer, such as a compression shirt; a regular running shirt; and a breathable, wind and rain resistant running jacket. If you use a particularly warm brand of compression top such as Under Armour Coldgear, you might opt out of wearing the running shirt.

On your legs, it will depend on the outside temperature, but a couple of layers will usually be sufficient even for extremely cold runs. These layers should be a snug-fitting pair of running tights or leggings, with some track pants over the top. If it is not too cold, then a pair of shorts – or compression shorts – is ideal under the track pants.

Always aim to buy proper running apparel because it will have special moisture wicking features to keep you warm and dry, by removing perspiration from your skin. This is especially important if you are out in cold winds.

The final items you will appreciate on a cold run are a warm pair of gloves and a beanie to keep your hands and head warm. Again, these pieces of clothing can be obtained made from moisture wicking fabrics, which help to regulate your temperature to keep you warm without overheating when you start exercising.

When spring arrives, you will feel so much better for having continued running throughout the winter. You will not have put on those extra pounds in weight, and your fitness levels will have been maintained, so you will not have to start from scratch.
